Once upon a time in 1980’s Tucson, Arizona, long before artificial intelligence, there was an original rock & roll band called Stab in the Dark. The band played all over Tucson and Southern Arizona throughout that time and recorded two album projects at the legendary Sound Factory Studios in 1986 and 1988 with talented engineer/owner Steve English. In 2024 the tapes from these sessions were discovered in the dusty archives of band leader Chaz (Chuck) Gross. At the urging of bassist James Gray, the tapes were shipped off to be restored and transferred to digital files which were then remixed by Chaz and keyboardist for the band, Rob Francis, to more modern-day standards at the 1111 Studios of Mike Levy in Tucson.
This project from a time when all kinds of music flourished in Tucson is a local document of an original band that had a good run and an exciting time rocking the scene and is now released for the streaming enjoyment of all, worldwide!
This project is warmly dedicated to the memory of our bassist and dear friend, James Mackey Gray. James was the only bass player Stab in the Dark ever had and his groove defined the sound and rhythm of the band along with drummer Scott Dulla. He was one of a kind and we were one lucky band to have him along for the ride.
